Tower Hamlets Council plans to handle all the Borough's rubbish at one huge site by the A12 right here in Poplar
300,000 tonnes of rubbish for Poplar
A Message of Thanks
A big ‘thank you’ to everyone who signed the Leabank Project petition of protest at Tower Hamlets’ strategic proposal for a massive waste management facility at Ailsa Street North, right by the A102 Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach.
I presented the petition on your behalf to Deputy Mayor Councillor Ohid Ahmed on Friday afternoon, 9 March. As he promised at the Trussler Hall meeting, Ohid himself added his name – making a total on the day of 1247 signatories!

Leabank Director, John Baker presents the

Among them are local residents of every background, workers, business operators and private landowners. In the covering letter, Leabank Project made it clear our community will never agree without protest to giving up so much land by the river – however thoroughly we understand the serious problems of waste management for the future.
From now we must turn our full attention to future developments, including waste-management alternatives for Tower Hamlets as a whole. The Lower Lea and its communities have a long and honourable history, now in danger of being submerged and finally lost in a renewed wave of administrative contempt. We must point the ways towards neighbourhoods we deserve!
